unreimbursed dental, vision, and health expenses deduction

I am filing my Ohio state taxes and noticed a deduction for unreimbursed dental, vision, and health care premiums and expenses. I have an employer sponsored health care plan and they do pay for part of my premiums but it is not pre-taxed. I pay for part of the premiums and have had additional expenses this past year in the way of prescriptions, health care visits, and surgery/procedures. My husband has Medicare and did not have to pay any premiums in 2024 (they were paid ahead in 2023), but he did have expenses in the way of prescriptions and health care visits. Can I take this deduction for my husband and myself?

Yes, there is a deduction available in OH for
- Health Insurance Premiums
- Healthcare Expenses (Other Than Premiums) subject to 7.5% Federal AGI threshhold
- Long Term Care Insurance Premiums (less well known)
- Medical Savings Account Contributions (not HSA contributions)
Each of these deductions will have specific instructions on what qualifies. Given your information, you may qualify for these entries on your OH tax return.
The reporting of these expenses on the OH return is one line item. Your SSN(s) are displayed for the OH state return, but there is not a requirement to identify which expenses came from which spouse or dependent.0
