How to indicate a move

Hello,

I lived and earned money in NJ for half the year and then moved to and earned money in CA for half the year. However, my address listed on my W2 from NJ is my current CA address (I wanted an address that would be valid at the time my W2 was sent out.) How do I clearly indicate that I was a NJ resident for the first part of the year, or indicate which income is NJ income?

Also, how do I handle income from the bank (interest, investment income?)

The address on your W-2 isn't important. It sounds like you'd just file a NJ and CA return as a part-year resident. The software will ask how much income belongs to each state. If you changed jobs with the move, then it's easy to know how much. For interest and other income like that, you usually just divide it out by how long you lived in the state. So if it was 6 months in each state, then just put 1/2 of the interest to each state.
