Overlapping months in states

I lived in NY and bought a house in WV. The deed was issued in June and I sent my belongings that month, but I lived in NY until the end of July. I want to file my taxes for NY from January to July and for WV for June to December because it's not worth it for me to have WV come back at me when they ask for proof of residency or NY for the medical insurance I bought. It's not enough income to worry about anyway. Will FreeTaxUSA allow me to do that? Also, WV wants copies of 1099s and such - how do I give them copies if I e-file or do I just not worry about it unless they ask?

Yes, FreeTaxUSA supports filing part-year resident returns for both New York and West Virginia. You can specify your residency periods—January through July for New York and June through December for West Virginia—and allocate your income accordingly. The platform allows you to divide your income, adjustments, credits, and deductions based on where you lived when the income was received. This article helps explain how in more detail:
Regarding West Virginia's request for copies of 1099s and other documents: If you e-file your return, you don't need to send these documents unless the state specifically requests them later. It's advisable to keep copies of your 1099s and other relevant documents in case West Virginia contacts you for verification.
