I efiled my state return and owed an amt. Why has it not been taken out yet?

I chose to pay by direct debit on 4/15/25. The bank information was entered and showed up on return in the site but when I printed it out it was not here for the state return but federal bank info printed and showed. So far they have not taken the amount out of my bank account and it is the 17th. So does this mean that Free Tax USA did not sent my debit account information to the state when it was accepted?

Sometimes states are just slow to do the actual debit - especially when so many get set for the 15th. You can check to make sure that's what you set up and check the bank account on the last screen in FreeTaxUSA where it show accepted.

You could also call the state and ask, I would think. Try a number from here:

Do I have to make payment to MN Dept Revenue yet and then pay penalty if Free Tax USA did not submit it with the return? How do I find out if State received .

Hello,

It can take a few days for the IRS/state to take out what is owed. The important thing is that you scheduled a payment on/before the filing deadline. I have even heard of it taking a few weeks after the deadline because of all of the requests they have to process.

If you did use direct debit, you should be able to view your bank information used for it by going to Final Steps -> Check Status / Print Tax Return and going down to your state section. If everything is correct, then you shouldn’t have to worry about making another payment.
