I have Question About Filing State Taxes Separately – Anyone Done This?

Hey everyone,

I just finished my federal return & everything went pretty smoothly but I am debating whether or not to file my state return here too. Also I have heard mixed things about doing the state portion on different platforms when it comes to certain credits forms.

I am in UK so I am wondering if there are any limitations or quirks I should know about before clicking ahead. Also, if anyone has experience with FreeTaxUSA's state filing—such as ease of use, cost or if it automatically pulls info from the federal return—I want to hear your thoughts.

I Appreciate any insight you all have! I am trying to avoid any “oops” moments before wrapping things up for the year.

Thank you for your questions. The information entered in the federal portion of your account is also used to prepare the state return. Specific income, deductions, credits, and other relevant details pertinent to the state can be input in the state portion of your account. State returns are priced at $14.99, while the federal return service is free of charge.

Our software will guide you through the process of entering all the necessary information for both federal and state returns. Should you have additional information to report, our software includes menu pages that provide options to input various types of income, deductions, and credits applicable to both the federal and state returns.

Once you have completed entering all information for the federal return, you will be directed to the state section of your account to input details specific to your state return. If you decide not to file your state return using FreeTaxUSA, you can simply remove it from your order on the Order Products and Services page under the Final Steps menu.

For users with a United States address and a U.S. credit card to cover the state return fee, it is possible to file from the UK using FreeTaxUSA.
