Taxes Filed Timely/Tax Money Owed Still Not Deducted 05/25/2025

Hi All,

I deeply concerned that the IRS has not deducted the amount I owed the government in taxes. I filed my taxes before 04/15/2025 and the has not been debited from my account. What should I do or is it normal to take some time? Thanks

    Hi Osmani,

    When you select Direct Debit to pay for your taxes owed, then it isn't uncommon for the IRS to take 2 or 3 weeks to debit your account for the amount you owe. However 6 weeks may indicate there is an issue. I suggest a couple things.

    First, check that you entered your banking information (account and routing number) on your account. Sign into your account and go to the Return Status page using the Final Steps menu. Check your bank information using the Direct Debit Information button.

    Second, use IRS.gov to create an account and check the status of your return and tax due using the Online account for individuals.
