How do I start a new tax year?
I started to create a return last year, just to get a feel for what this site was like; I had already filed with TurboTax… so I never completed the 2024 return, though it mostly has useful cross-year data (personal info) entered.
However, whenever I log in, I get a page with various options to 'Continue 2024 Tax Return'; I don't see any options to begin a 2025 return. What am I missing?

Hi Gorlash,
The 2025 software will be out in a couple of weeks. 2025 has not been released yet. That is why you don't see a link or are prompted to start 2025.
If you have finished 2024 or want to finish it on your FreeTaxUSa account and want things to rollover to 2025, you can complete just your federal return (which is free) and finalize your return as a Mailed return. That way when you sign into the 2025 software from the home page, all your data will rollover from 2024 to 2025.0 -
Hi Gorlash,
Here is the problem. When you created the 2024 account, you created an new account and the option to import a return is no longer available, even when you sign into your account using the 2025 software. By contacting support, they may be able to assist you. Otherwise, your only other option is to create a new account with a different username in the 2025 software.

Okay, second related question:
I have a PDF copy of my 2024 tax returns (we filed 1040-SR), generated by TurboTax…Will I be able to just import this PDF file, to provide the 2024 data into your program?

Hello Gorlash,
In FreeTaxUSA you have the option to import a PDF when you start (or create) a new account. You import the prior year return. For example: when you create a brand new 2025 account, you import your 2024 return. When you create a 2024 account you may import a 2023 return.0 -
ummm… okay… so, if I already created the 2024 account, it's too late?
Or should I delete the account and start over? That actually sounds like the simple solution.[ except, it does not appear that I can delete the return once I have started it … ?? ]

Hi Gorlash,
Yes, it is too late to import the 2024 return, since you must import it when creating a 2025 return. I recommend that you sign into your account and contact support. Support can assist you with account issues like that. Your other option is to create a 2025 account when 2025 is released.

Oh, okay… I mis-read your previous post, sorry…
No, I haven't created 2025 return yet (the option doesn't exist yet)… I only (partially) created the 2024 return.
so sounds like I'll be fine when I do so…0 -
Okay, thank you for your assistance!! I will contact support.
