I was charged $25 to e-file, but was then told I had to mail it. Shouldn’t I get $25 refunded if that’s the case?

    Hi Chadofearth,

Thanks for joining our Community and writing in with your question.

When using FreeTaxUSA, our customers typically have the option to either e-file their tax return or send by mail. Federal tax returns are always 100% free to file, that's part of our guarantee.

We do however, charge for state tax returns and other services such as Customer Support or our Pro Support, regardless of how the tax return ends up being filed.

As we approach the end of November, the IRS shuts down their e-file system. If you did not create your FreeTaxUSA account and login before October 20th, you'll only be able to mail your tax return(s). I always like to recommend using USPS certified mail return receipt requested for mail to the IRS for proof of delivery. About $8 at the post office.
