Latest Standard Deduction for Single Tax Payers
Microsoft Copilot AI claims the official IRS figure for the 2025 federal standard deduction for single filers is $15,000, not $15,750. It also claims that some tax software and media outlets (FreeTaxUSA, Gemini, ChatGPT) estimated inflation adjustments before the IRS finalized them. Does FreeTaxUSA have a response?

Hi bamcat1,
Thanks for joining the community. For the official IRS 2025 standard deduction numbers it's best to go straight to the IRS website rather than AI platforms and services. Last month the IRS released changes in standard deduction amounts affected by the One Big Beautiful Bill.In the release they mention "for tax year 2025, the OBBB raises the standard deduction amount to $31,500 for married couples filing jointly. For single taxpayers and married individuals filing separately, the standard deduction for 2025 is $15,750, and for heads of households, the standard deduction is $23,625."
Here's the link to IRS press release outlining the Standard Deduction changes.
