Hi, can I prepare my taxes and pay the state filing fee then e-file when the systems are back up? or do I have to mail it in now?

    Hi Rokai,

    Yes, you can prepare your taxes and pay the state filing fee now, then e-file once the IRS and state systems are available. You do not need to mail in your return.

    The IRS has announced they will begin accepting 2025 tax year returns electronically on January 26. Please refer to your state's Department of Revenue website for up-to-date information on their opening date. States typically follow the IRS dates, however not all.

    Once e-filing becomes available, navigate to Final Steps > Check Status / Print Tax Return and select the e-filing option on the Final Steps > Filing Method page.
