Removing IRS IP Pin

I get the IRS IP Pin every year. (Note: now available online 1/14/2026)

After you efile, can you go back and remove it?

    Hello JLFTUFreeForum,

    Great question! Once you e-file your tax return with the IRS IP PIN (Identity Protection PIN), you can't go back and remove it from that return.

    The IP PIN is part of the authentication process for that specific filing. It's used by the IRS to verify you're a legitimate taxpayer submitting the return, and it becomes part of the official record for that year's filing.
