2024 taxes
I have a second question I paid for a copy of my 2024 tax return to come by mail. Can I still efile my return after the date January 26 when efiling opens up again ? OR will free tax usa let it sit in que and they will efile it after January 26 ? OR do I go in manually and efile it ? OR maybe because it is 2024 taxes i am not allowed to efile ? Thanks in advance for answers — Thank you

You’re fine 🙂 Paying for the mailed copy doesn’t affect e-filing at all. FreeTaxUSA will usually just hold your return and automatically e-file it once the IRS opens on January 26, as long as you already submitted it in the system. You don’t need to redo anything, and 2024 returns are definitely allowed to be e-filed.

Hi amourviolet,
If you paid for a printed copy, that just means we'll send you a copy of your 2024 tax return in the mail. Purchasing that product doesn't affect your ability to e-file.
If you haven't actually mailed a copy of your 2024 tax return to the IRS yet, then you can wait until January 26th when the IRS starts accepting tax returns through e-file again, unlock your return, and see if you're eligible to change your filing method to e-file.
Please note that to e-file a prior year tax return, you will need an identity protection (IP) PIN from the IRS, which you can get by visiting this IRS link:
You can enter your IP PIN in the software by selecting Misc > Personal > Identity Protection PIN.
