Federal and State Return $0?
I am a university student in CA, but my hometown is in MD. I just finished putting in all of my information for the 2025 tax year, but when I get to the checkout section, the top bar still says $0 for both federal and CA return. Is this because I'm filing as a nonresident? For my address, I put my current apartment building in CA, but still had to file as a nonresident because my driver's license is not a CA license, and I'm not registered to vote in CA. I spent most days of the year in CA, and have only earned income in CA.

Yep, that’s pretty normal. The $0 at checkout usually just means you don’t have a refund or owe anything, not that it didn’t calculate. Being a nonresident can also zero things out depending on your income and withholdings. Double-check the final federal and CA summary pages (not the checkout screen) to see the actual amounts, that top bar isn’t always reliable.
