my state refund was sent to someone else what do I do

    Hi donaldbarge67,

    The most common reason a state refund appears to go to an unknown account is the "Pay with Refund" option. If you chose to pay our fee out of your refund, your state refund is first deposited into a temporary account held by Santa Barbara Tax Products Group (SBTPG). They deduct our fee and then forward the remaining balance to your personal bank account. So the account it went to isn't someone else's — it's a processing account that handles the fee deduction.

    To verify the bank account you entered for your personal deposit, sign in to your account, go to Check Return Status, and look for the "How Will I Get My Refund?" option. There you can check a box to view the account and routing number you provided.
