If I've spent most of the year abroad do I still need to file taxes the same way I did it when I was living a full year in the U.S.?

Yes, as a resident of the USA, you are required to file a tax return if your total worldwide income is above the filing threshold. See the IRS interactive assistant and see if you need to file.
Just keep in mind, that our software does not currently support the form needed to report foreign earned income and you may need to use another tax service.
