Hi,

I am self-employed and have been unmarried for most of 2023. (I got married on Dec 9th, 2023.) Do I have to file jointly with my new husband when filing taxes for 2023?

The IRS says that your filing status depends on whether or not you are married on December 31 and that will determine your filing status for the entire year. You can also use this link from the IRS to determine your filing status: https://www.irs.gov/help/ita/what-is-my-filing-status

you need to file either married filing joint with your spouse or married filing separately which costs in tax credits available
