Even if you aren't required to file, there are good reason you may want to. It helps prevent identity theft, it may help if you need proof of income for various social programs, and it keeps you active in the system in case there are future benefits that are dependent on filing, like stimulus payments. And why not file on FreeTaxUSA? It's free and quite easy. Just remember that if your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is zero, you will need to add $1 in interest income in order to allow your return to be e-filed. (The IRS will not accept e-filed returns with a $0 AGI.)
