Expat Filing - Suggestion

Hi

I have already submitted this as a feature request. I've been using FreeTax for several years, and I've been very happy with the platform and support.

It would be great if we could file as expats, using a foreign address and have any related forms added to the platform (FEIE) (FTC). Even if a small, reasonable fee is added for this service.

My situation is simple. Only a 1040 for now.

Thank you

A

    Hello Andrewjm,

Thank you for your post and feedback. I will pass it on to our development team. Do you have a trusted friend or relative in the US whose address you can use? That is one option.

Thank you for your reply and for forwarding it on for a possible upgrade feature. I really like this platform, ease of use and customer support, so I hope it can be added, even as a reasonable upgrade fee feature.

I've been using a US address that I maintain for voting, driver's license, etc. I even paid some state taxes last year (a small amount).

It's all a bit confusing sorting through what I need to do for SS, taxes, addresses, voting, driver's license, and mail. Voting hasn't been a problem, but I still need to keep a state driver's license when/if I return.

Anyway, given my current situation, for taxes, I probably should be filing as an expat.

    Thank you again

    Hello Andrewjm,

The good news is, you may access Form 8938 and report information about your foreign financial assets to the IRS on the Misc menu in FreeTaxUSA. Also, if you have a foreign bank account or other accounts, you may report that as well. So, you may be able to file with us as long as you have a USA address.
