I want to take two returns for TY 2025 that were filed as married
filing separately to amend as one return married filing jointly to receive the
benefit of the Big **** Bill passed by Congress.
How do I do this? Do I take one of the original returns and add the other spouse info in and file as amended MFJ?

Hi Cieboy,
Thanks for joining our Community and writing in with your question.
If you filed your original tax return with FreeTaxUSA and used the married filing separate status, to amend your tax return and switch to married filing jointly status, login to your 2025 account and select the option to amend. This will created Form 1040-X and a new Form 1040.
Follow the prompts to update your filing status under the Personal section.
Add your spouse and their SSN, date of birth, etc., and all income, credits, deductions, etc., including dependents if applicable from the other spouse's original tax return.
If eligible, the enhanced deduction for seniors will be applied, as will other eligible benefits from OBBBA.
You have three years to file an amended return to claim a credit or refund.
The other tax return filed married filing separate will be disregarded by the IRS.
