Federal Student Loan collections
If a student loan was in default before the pause but due to the pause collections stopped and therefore I was able to get my tax returns, will I still be able to get my return this year if I file on time?

Hi iloveperu,
You are correct that it should not begin until September 2024. "Collections (offset and garnishment) on most defaulted loans will not resume until at least September 2024 due to the Fresh Start program."

Since the federal student loan forbearance has ended, the IRS may start collection activities again, any tax refund you receive might be garnished and used for your unpaid federal student loans in default.

When will they start collections? I read that it won't be until Sept 2024 that collections will begin.
