Federal Tax Return

I filed my federal and state tax return in 2021 and only got my state tax return. Even now I haven’t gotten my federal tax return and I am not a US citizen. I live outside of the US. I don’t know what to do. Is there any help on here with this situation?

Hi Kayla, thanks for writing in.

Sorry to hear you've not gotten your federal tax refund.

The best thing to do is start by checking the IRS' where's my refund website.

Since you live outside the United States, you may also call the IRS on their international phone number @ +1 (267) 941-1000, M - F, 6am - 11pm, Eastern Standard Time. Here is additional information you may find helpful.

I’ve done all of that for couple of months and still no resolve. They told me to wait for 16 weeks which is how long the process would take and I called after the 16 weeks and no one could give me a definite answer as to why I haven’t received my tax return. I just don’t know what to do anymore.

    I hear your frustation Kayla.

Another suggestion would be to contact the International Taxpayer Advocate referenced here:

"To request Taxpayer Advocate assistance, refer to the "Living Abroad?" section on the Local Taxpayer Advocate page to determine which office to contact based on your location. International taxpayers will now contact TAS at +15.15.56.GO.TAS/+15.15.56.46.827 or through email at tas.international@irs.gov. The line is programmed to automatically route the caller to Hawaii or Puerto Rico depending on the caller’s country of origin."

FreeTaxUSA does not track or have any connection to the IRS and their processing systems or timeframes.
