21 days to process federal return- when will payment be debited?

After filing federal and state returns and getting notifications that both were accepted-

I logged into the IRS website and see a message that it takes 21 days to process an electronic federal return.

I authorized a direct debit payment when filed but have seen no bank activity.

question:

Should make another payment by the deadline because of this processing delay?

Hi art,

The IRS will process the payment once they have processed your return. Since your return was filed and accepted before the deadline even though your payment will be withdrawn after the tax deadline the payment will not be late. The day you filed your tax return will be the day the IRS has on record for the payment.
