Filing Taxes Now Paying Later

Hi, I just have a question regarding paying my state taxes. I know FreeTaxUSA offers filing now and paying later, and I wanted to pay with a credit card. When I am on the section on how I want to pay my taxes it gives me Direct Debit or Mail in payment. I have seen that others have an option to file now and pay later and with a credit card. I am confused as to where I can find that as it is only giving me an option to pay through debit and can choose when. Please let me know, thank you!

Hi Vbaquerfo,
To avoid penalties you must pay your taxes by April 15. With Direct Pay you can set the date to pay in the future. If you want to mail in a payment, mail it in before April 15.

Am I able to put a credit card instead of debit? I understand I can do a future date but I wanted to use a credit card. Please let me know, thank you in advance!

From this page it looks like you can pay with credit card! But there is probably a connivence fee.
"Paying with credit card or debit card
We'll give you instructions on how to pay the amount you owe to the IRS by credit card or debit card after you've filed your return. There will be a convenience fee charged based on the amount you're paying."

So do I have to go through the whole process of choosing the Debit Direct, entering my debit card, file it, then they will give me instructions on how to do it? I just didn’t want to enter my debit card information now if I can’t change it after I file it.

Yeah, when you're checking out you'll be prompted to put in your card info a few times
- order payment, that's where you'll pay FreeTaxUSA (if you're paying for a state return) and put in all your card info to do that
- review tax return, you'll be asked again how you want to pay the IRS (NOT freetaxusa, since you already paid them in step one) and it will list debit, mail in, and credit card as options to pay the IRS

Yes, I did the order payment for FreeTaxUSA, and I am currently on the section for Review Tax Return on how I want to pay the IRS, however I only see the debit and mail in option. The credit card option is not there for me. Is there another way for me to get that option? Thank you!

Hi VBaquerfo,
The option to pay with a credit card may not be offered because of your return. Are you sure you have a tax due or do you have a refund? You said, "I only see the debit and mail in option." That indicates you may have refunds due and you can get paid by direct deposit or a mailed check.
