If my City of Detroit wage allocation is less than 100% on Form 5121, am I required to attach the employer verification letter and work log to my e-filed return? If so, how should these files be attached? If not, should I simply retain them for my records in case they are requested later?

Hello nickytax! You do not need to attach the employer verification letter or your work log to your e-filed return. The instructions on Form 5121 state that if your City of Detroit allocation is less than 100 percent, you should obtain a letter from your employer to verify columns B through E and retain your work log. Michigan Treasury may request copies of these documents, but they are not submitted with the return itself.
Simply keep both documents in your records in a safe place. If the Michigan Department of Treasury ever requests them, you'll have them ready to provide.0
