  • NIIT Net Investment Income Tax link is missing from Fed Return Misc dropdown
  • Any changes made to Net Investment Income Tax don't get applied

Net Investment Income Tax (NIIT Form 8962) screen is missing from the Misc dropdown and does not show up during the Misc steps. The only way I can access this screen is from a yellow alert at the Tax Return Alerts step.

The Tax Return Alerts says:

Double Check State Income Tax for NIIT
You entered
$0 as the amount of state income tax paid in 2025 that is allocable to net investment income, which is different from the $1,007 we calculated. To change the amount you entered, go back to the Net Investment Income Tax Information (Form 8960) screen. If the amount you entered is correct, simply continue with your tax return

When I input a number ($1007) for Deductions and Additional Modifications Allocable to Investment Income, click save, then go back to the NIIT screen, my $1007 reverts back to 0?

The system isn't letting me apply this change. Is this a bug?

    Hi Community,

We’re aware of an alert currently affecting some returns and are actively working to resolve it. If your income is below the Net Investment Income Tax threshold or you are claiming the standard deduction, this tax does not apply to you, and the alert will not affect your return.

A fix has been implemented in the software. Sign out of your account and sign back in and check for the alert.

Please Contact Customer Support if you need assistance.

I don't see the NIIT alert anymore, thanks. Can confirm income is not high enough to qualify for this. Looks like the bug has been fixed.

I am not seeing that this is fixed on my end. Keep getting the error. I am above the threshold but it's not clear where to input the number calculated by FreeTaxUSA. I tried it under Deductions and Additional Modifications Allocable to Investment Income/Enter additional modifications to your investment expenses… It still says that I entered 0, even when I click on the link to go back and see the number I entered. So where are we supposed to enter this number?
