Should I file a Form 1040-X for 2024 Taxes?
After filing my 2024 income tax, an insurance company where I have Annuities decided they should have filed interest for my Annuities as 1099-1099-OID rather than 1099-1099-INT. Do I need to file a form 1040-X so that my filing matches theirs? The amount of interest is exactly the same on both versions. The insurance company says I don't need to file 1040-X but I have received the 1099-OID and they failed to mark it as "corrected."

Hi Uncle__Geigi, the recommendation from the insurance company is correct -- a Form 1040-X is generally not needed in your situation, since the dollar amount of interest is exactly the same on both the 1099-INT and the 1099-OID.
The purpose of Form 1040-X is to correct something on your return that changes your income, deductions, credits, or tax owed. According to the IRS, you should file an amended return "if you didn't claim the correct filing status or you need to change your income, deductions, credits, dependents, other taxes or tax withholding."
Since the amount you reported is identical to what the insurance company ultimately reported, your tax liability has not changed, and there should be nothing to correct on your return.
Both 1099-INT interest and 1099-OID interest are reported on Schedule B and taxed the same way as ordinary income, so the form type difference does not affect how the income is taxed.
If the IRS has questions about this income, they will generally send you a notice requesting more information. Then you can respond and explain the situation. If that happens, you can simply let them know that the income was reported correctly on your return under a different form type, with the same amount.
