Remote Working and Moving States, is this legal?
I work completely remote for 5 years now. My job is based in California, but I have been living on the east coast for my first year at my job. So I had always had my east coast address, but 6 months into last year, I moved to California not knowing if I will stay or not.
It has been 6 months into this year, and I think I will stay til the end of the year. I got a part time job at a yoga studio as well on my California address. But I still had my Maryland address for the year. What can I do to fix this?

Hi Victoria202,
It's not clear what you want to fix. Maybe you didn't tell your employer where you were living and they continued withholding Maryland tax, and didn't withhold California tax? You first need to determine if and when you became a resident of California. The following PDF contains the guidelines for determining residency:

if I ask my employer to change it to my California address, what will happen if half the year I paid for Maryland and the other half California ?

I would tell your employer when you became a resident of California - they may be able to correct the withholding, or at least adjust the withholding for the rest of the year. If they cannot reverse the Maryland withholding, and you were actually a California resident the entire year, you will need to file a non-resident return with Maryland to get the withholding refunded.
