The IRS is the most powerful collections agency in the world. Are you prepared to face them alone? With the power to question, challenge or change what’s reported on your return, the IRS can send a letter requesting you provide an explanation or additional supporting documentation to defend the information on your tax return. What will you do if you get that letter?
Failing to respond or responding incorrectly might lead to substantial additional tax the IRS says you have to pay, or worse, more severe consequences such as a wage garnishment, bank account levy, or filing of a lien against your property.
How can Audit Defense help me?
With the purchase of Audit Defense through our third-party partner, Protection Plus, FreeTaxUSA customers will:

- Be represented before the IRS, including tax court, by licensed experts who will draft written responses, prepare and organize defense documents.
- Be assisted in managing identity theft situations, making sure returns are filed and handling the tax consequences from ID theft.
When can I purchase Audit Defense?
FreeTaxUSA customers have the option to purchase Audit Defense before or after a return is filed. However, the purchase must be made before a notice is received from the IRS or state taxing authority. Audit Defense is tax year specific, and service applies only for the year it is purchased. Coverage on your federal return is for three years, and coverage on your state return is for four years.
